Digvijay Singh - a Loose Cannon? I Don't Think So!

digvijay_singhIt would not be a surprise to see Digvijay Singh walking on just one foot because his other foot is always in his mouth.

He is always making very provocative, divisive and very irresponsible statements which even his own Congress party, becomes very uncomfortable with and is forced to dissociate with them. He has been bestowed with a lot of adjectives ranging from insane, duffer, liar etc. by his fellow politicians.

He started his political career at a young age in Madhya Pradesh and has held several important positions including the post of the Chief Minister of the state for two five year terms. In 2001, during an income tax raid on a liquor manufacturer in Bhopal, income tax authorities seized a diary maintained by the distillery's owners. They found the names of several officials and politicians of the state and their bribe money written against their names in the diary which reportedly also listed Digvijay Singh's name with a payment of 100 million rupees against it. Digvijay Singh was the chief minister at the time.

In 2004, the Madhya Pradesh Lok Ayukta registered an FIR in connection with a land scam in Indore under the Prevention of Corruption Act to probe allegations of criminal conspiracy and corruption against Digvijay Singh, and four others. On 12 February 2009, a case of cheating and corruption was filed against Digvijay Singh, a former state minister Choudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi and ten others by the Madhya Pradesh state Economic Offences Wing under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act for alleged irregularities in construction of the Treasure Island Mall in Indore. On 20 April 2011, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed the Economic Offences Wing of Madhya Pradesh state to file a chargesheet against Digvijay Singh and 11 others for these alleged irregularities.

I am going to quote some of his most infamous statements

- Yoga guru Ramdev is a 'fraud'. If Ramdev wants to do politics, he should give up yoga

- Anna Hazare would also be given the same treatment that had been meted out to Baba Ramdev

- Suresh Kalmadi is innocent and should get bail. We feel sorry for Suresh Kalmadi who is suffering hardships, and also for Ashok Chavan. In my personal opinion, both of them are innocent

- The RSS and the VHP are insidious in their effort to break India

- BJP has told Anna Hazare that he could be the all-party candidate for the 2012 President's election

- The background picture of 'Bharatmata' (put up on the dais where Anna Hazare went on fast) resemble with Bharatmata which RSS usually puts in their background. Then Mahatma Gandhi's photograph is also missing from the background

- Osama ji had been living in Pakistan for so many years, how is it  possible that the Pakistani authorities could not locate him

- The anti-corruption stir by Anna Hazare and Ramdev were part of an over-all plan of RSS- BJP to divert attention from Sangh's "terror links" and warned spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar that he too could be used by them

Digvijay Singh is a very senior leader and also a general secretary of the Congress party who also enjoys the confidence and trust of the Gandhi family. It is not a secret that not even a leaf turns in the party without the tacit approval of Sonia Gandhi. We all would like to know if he is a loose cannon and acting on his own or he has been planted by the party to make all these statements and make an assessment of the public mood in the country. What was the ulterior motive of saying that the RSS and BJP are trying to break India or addressing the most wanted terrorist in the world as Osama ji? Was he trying to hoodwink the minorities? If the public reaction is in sync with the statements of Diggy '“ as he is affectionately called by people close to him, the party can endorse his statements. If not, they can always wash their hands off him. Even if Diggy looks stupid and is ready to become a sacrificial lamb for the party, the party looks fine. It is hard to fathom that Diggy is a loose cannon. The Congress party is a very well oiled machine which is run by very shrewd operatives. They have two set of teeth '“ Khane ke aur, aur dikhane ke aur. The Congress party might not get hurt because of his utterances but Digvijay, as Anna Hazare said, definitely belongs in a mental asylum.

I want to end this article on a lighter note with a joke posted by Suraj Singh on an India related Facebook website:

Digvijay Singh's wife died and went to heaven. As she stood in front of Yamraj, she saw a huge wall of clocks.
She asked, "What are all those clocks?"
Yamraj answered, "Those are LieClocks. Everyone on Earth has a LieClock. Every time you lie, the hands on your clock will move."
Oh! said Diggy's wife, "Who's clock is that?"
That's Gautam Buddha's. The hands have never moved indicating that he never told a lie.
"And whose clock is that?"
That's Mahatma Gandhi's clock. The hands have only moved twice, telling us that Gandhiji only told 2 lies in his entire life.
She asked, "Where's my Diggy's clock?"
Diggy's clock is in my office, replied Yamraj, I am using it as a ceiling fan.

Digvijay Singh is AICC GS in charge of Uttar Pradesh, close adviser to Rahul and who accompanies Rahul on most of his trips to UP. I think he is playing the bad COP while Rahul is playing the good COP. Can he say all these BS regularly if Rahul does not give his consent, obvious answer NO. He is used by Rahul to say things which Rahul cannot say and that way he can provide cover for Rahul by engaging the opponent. Opponent falls in the trap to this ploy and they also get engaged with Digvijay while Rahul steer away cleanly. Sometime, I feel how can politicians be so lame not to understand the whole game plan.

I agree with Punyatma about Congress being a well oiled machine. Digvijay is the 'mad dog' that has been left loose by the Congress to malign and destroy the credibility of Team Anna by hook or crook. And he may appear to be a 'loose cannon' but there is nothing loose about the shrewd psychological and other hideous means he and his goons are employing in their fight against Anna. Digvijay represents the ultimate dirt that politicians typically are and goes a step further. He is the kind that would 'sell his family' in order to further his selfish motives. I can't recall anything that he has done in his lifetime that might be for the betterment of India.

What a waste of time to write a whole article on this man. no comments...ever ything written here is so obvious, what is there to discuss...I thought all of us are aware of this sinister plan of the Congress party. As it is, the media is giving him a lot of attention and now on the internet. But one thing is truly appreciative of the man...HE IS LOYALTY PERSONIFIED.

A great article to expose another degenerate politician of India. I totally agree with Ajay Gupta that people like Digvijay Singh would sell their family for selfish motives. There are some people who just do not have the sense of right and wrong. They have just no shame in even using and taking advantage of their own family members.

I could not even fathom that Kalpana Rastogi feels that this article is a waste of time. Kalpana, what are you thinking? If a verbal criminal is discussed in the media, it does not mean that he should not be discussed at all. His double speak statements has to be exposed, again and again. It is our responsibility to expose them until they are thrown out of the political system. Kalpana, your comment is totally out of line.

I agree with Ajay Gupta but unable to understand Kalpana Rastogi's comments. She should try to be more analytical in her analysis. Digvijay Singh is still the general secretary of the Congress party. We should stop discussing him only after he is thrown out of the party. We all understand that he is doing the dirty work for the party. PolityIndia.com discussed A Raja until he was arrested and put behind bars. We have a responsibilty to discuss Digvijay Singh until he becomes politically irrelevant. I have been writing, along with Kalpana, since the inception of this website but this comment of Kalpana does not make any sense at all. Kalpana, we have to reinforce the negatives of the system if the negatives are still there.

Another great effort to expose the bad elements of Indian politics. Kalpana Rastogi's comments about this article has made me disappointed and very sad.

That was truly a wake up call for me. Thanks all of you. Sorry for being a bit erratic in my comments but the bottomline is that he is getting undue importance with his utterances which are ruthless, worthless and spineless. But I loved the one liner which said his other leg is always in his mouth. All these comments on a comment made by me ensured one thing though that PolityIndia.com is not just a random site, it is a serious proposition and we need to circulate it with more gusto and we need to try to do more than just post comments as I have suggested before also.

Digvijay Singh has no self respect and no morals. Even if he has been planted by the party to do this dirty job, it takes only a scumbag to do this kind of job. As Sanjay Pawar says, these kind of people would even sell their family for their selfish objectives.

# Dhananjay Singh 2011-11-07 18:15
Digvijay Singh is the biggest sycophant in Indian politics. He recently said that if Rahul Gandhi becomes Congress president, he would be taking care of all of us.

I was also very upset to read Kalpana Rastogi's comment but then I saw her second comment and decided not to write anything against her. She is right that all of us should keep doing our best to make the already very popular website even more popular.

Subah ka bhoola shaam ko ghar aa jaye to usey bhoola nahin kahte! Kalpana, thanks for your second comment. Now, let us work very hard to make PolityIndia.com a force to reckon with. :-)

Wonderful article and a great joke at the end. If we do not expose people like Digvijay Singh and others, the average Indian would lose faith in the system. It is imperative that we keep talking and discussing these things until we see a radical change for the better in the quality of our politicians.

Indeed he is a loose cannon BUT a very cunningly calculated one. He says things not necessarily because he thinks so, but to create a ripple in the media. Diggyji is a very sensible and a mature man and is a 'raja' in the true sense. He is or rather was a 'praja's' king. But of late, he has become desperate, and just says things more for the media to lap up and for the people to jump up and scandalise them:). As far as finding his name in some bootleggers diary, anyone can put your name also in his 'dusht diary', how will you help it:). Sushil Kumar Shinde is there where he is, all because of his bootlegger friend, but it just so happens that his name has never been found in any 'dushtkarmi's' diary:). As far as media is concerned, they have been playing a very partial, preferential and unhealthy role, which they themselves have accepted in one of the meetings held at IIC. But then, the 'aam aadmi' has no other way to know the happenings around. We are all tied up in a catch 22 situation.
